One More Minute For Everyone
At seven minutes past seven, Noor began the test. Zuri and Pip watched the workshop link from Saturn’s comfortable welcome room. Lumi stood beside the seven-spoke transfer trolley, ready to help record the results.
The six agreed decorative-light connections opened in the order the adults had checked. Each receiving station confirmed the short test had begun. The seventh connection remained closed, exactly as its owner had requested.
Nothing borrowed went to an unexpected place. Words and shapes stayed beside every colored marker.
Then the final test chime sounded.
Noor watched the return messages. “Red received. Blue received. Orange received.”
Pip counted along. Yellow, green and indigo went home too. Each community confirmed that its borrowed light had returned at the agreed time.
The old clock changed.
07:08.
Zuri leaned forward. “It moved!”
“And it understands that this test has ended,” Noor said. “The next festival word will not start a new loan by itself.”
Lumi’s own lamp continued shining. The repaired system had returned the neighbors’ light without leaving Sunflower dark.
Ivo announced, “One minute has successfully become a different minute.”
That was funny enough to make everyone laugh, and important enough that Noor saved the test record.
Later, as guests prepared for the opening events, Mira received a call from a shuttle captain. A family needed more comfortable boarding time. Their bags had been stowed, but they were still settling into their seats.
Mira thanked the captain for calling before departure. Nobody needed to squeeze their bodies, bags or feelings into a hurried timetable.
She explained the choices to Kala and Dandy. The garden welcome could open as planned. The small parade could begin. Dandy and Mira could move their ceremony so the arriving family had time to rest first.
“Let’s do that,” Dandy said.
The captain confirmed the revised journey. Mira updated the arrival board. It clearly named the new time, rather than making guests guess.
Pip helped Kala place picture notices beside the words. Zuri drew the quiet bench and the refreshments table.
“A little more time can make a very different arrival,” Zuri said.
Ivo decided to prepare a welcome dance. He practiced six careful steps, then discovered that six legs did not automatically mean six different directions were a good idea.
“I will simplify,” he declared.
When the shuttle arrived, the family came into a bright, unhurried welcome room. They could choose a snack, a rest or the garden before the ceremony. Ivo performed his shorter dance and received delighted applause.
Meanwhile, a fresh purple envelope reached Sunflower Station. Noor checked its destination: Lumi, Everyone Welcome, Sunflower Station. The address worked.
Inside was a reply to Lumi’s new invitation. The sender hoped to visit on an agreed day.
Lumi entered it on the repaired calendar, with room left for ordinary maintenance and quiet time.
For the first time in years, the next day was something Lumi could plan for - and something the clock could reach.
