Lumi's First Invitation Home

Lumi’s invitation had arrived at the correct address. It asked for a short afternoon visit to the Mars welcome garden.

Lumi wanted to go. Then Lumi looked at Sunflower Station’s doorway.

“Who will look after my home while I am away?”

Noor brought the question to the maintenance team. Two trained adults would cover the agreed afternoon. They knew the controls, had the work list and could contact the station crew if needed.

Lumi’s own lamp had its checked supply. The map and reply routes were working. Leaving for a visit did not mean leaving the station uncared for.

“We can begin with a short visit,” Mira said. “We will agree on the return time together.”

Lumi checked the calendar and chose that plan.

Mira arranged the journey with a trained pilot. Lumi traveled in a protected passenger cabin, with the invitation safely stored. At the garden, Zuri and Pip were waiting with Noor.

There was no enormous party. They walked beside healthy plants, looked at drawings and sat down for a small snack. Lumi enjoyed the ordinary size of it.

“What would help visitors feel at home at Sunflower?” Lumi asked.

Zuri suggested a place to hang coats. Pip suggested a small shelf where guests could choose a story. Noor suggested asking visitors what else would help.

Lumi made notes without promising to build everything immediately.

They returned at the agreed time. The maintenance team handed back the completed work list and explained one task scheduled for the next day.

The welcome room looked familiar. Lumi placed a new garden drawing on the shelf, then sent a thank-you reply.

Soon there would be another ordinary workshop morning and another quiet visit. There would also be days for work and rest.

Lumi switched on the home lamp.

Sunflower Station was still home. Visiting friends had not taken it away. Instead, the visit had brought home a few good ideas - and the comfortable knowledge that friendship could include leaving, returning and choosing when to meet again.
