Prepare to check AIS, Form 168 or tax-credit entries

Get your facts together with a trusted grown-up.

Compare the right year's official information report with your evidence and organise a correction or feedback review.

DisputeOrganisationPrep worksheet

Who it goes to: CA and the reporting source or deductor; official Income Tax information-statement feedback route where available

Where it applies: India — year, taxpayer type, regime and actual portal requirements matter

01 · What is this?

A comparison sheet for reported income or tax-credit information that appears incorrect.

02 · When is it useful?

Use it when an official report contains an unfamiliar, duplicate, missing or mismatched entry.

03 · Start here

Download the correct year's report through authorised access and write the exact entry plus your supporting record.

Gather your pieces

  1. Use the report for the actual period: old-period AIS continues up to AY 2026–27; Tax Year 2026–27 introduces evolved AIS as Form 168.
  2. For AY 2023–24 onward, Form 26AS focuses on TDS/TCS; do not treat it as a complete income statement.
  3. Feedback is a record to review; it does not by itself amend your return or guarantee credit.

Your prep sheet

Replace each [bracketed label] with your own verified details. Open the editor to make it yours, then read it through before sending.

Please compare each item with the underlying transaction and identify the responsible reporting source or deductor. Please explain whether the next step is official feedback, a correction by that source, or a separate return-related action. Keep the original and updated reports distinguishable and record the date and acknowledgement of each action. An entry marked for review should not be assumed corrected merely because feedback was submitted.

Your next moves

  1. Ask the adviser to identify whether feedback, source correction, deductor correction or a return action is appropriate.
  2. Keep dated report copies and correction acknowledgements, then re-check the relevant entry.

Real-world check
